Having come from a family of farmers, Oclos is aware of the struggles of under represented groups. He uses simple colors and techniques with heavy brushstrokes so that viewers focus on his subject and message. His greatest challenge as an artist is how to portray injustice and gain empathy from people who have grown accustomed to violence; how to inspire society to take action instead of looking away.
Archie Oclos graduated from the University of the Philippines with a BFA in Painting. He is a recipient of the 2018 CCP 13 Artists Awards and the 2019 Ateneo Art Awards. He currently spends his time in rural areas of the Philippines to paint murals that address political infractions or advocacies which is met by the intended audience directly.
