Notes of the Artist:
For this exhibition I took inspiration from 4 main ideas: The Air Swipe Bag, A.I. Images, Magic Chocolates, and Oppenheimer (the film).
The Air Swipe Bag:
“Made of NASA’s nanomaterial silica aerogel, the lightest solid on planet Earth, the Air Swipe bag is made of 99% pure nothing and 1% glass, the glass of the future. This very delicate (and non-fragile) nanomaterial has been used by NASA to capture stardust: because it can withstand extreme heat (1200o Celsius) and a pressure of 4000 times its weight. This Air Swipe bag is the biggest ever object made of this space technology nanomaterial. Developed by Professor Ioannis Michaloudis.” – from Coperni Instagram
A.I. Images & Magic Chocolates
I once encountered a comment that says maybe the only acceptable use of AI is for psychoactive trips, both for stimulation or simulation. I certainly agree, these meditations came from personal experiences. A glimpse of how overwhelmingly small and insignificant we humans are in this beautiful universe, just mere dust. Do note that that is not coming from a disheartening perspective but rather from an accepting one. I have too much to say about these experiences but I will leave those to these images.
Oppenheimer
My insight from Oppenheimer (the 2023 film) came only later, I was almost done with most of my artworks when I saw this film. It became the overarching idea, the rope that tied all the bits and pieces of what I was trying to convey. Despite all the advancement and knowledge in science, mathematics, technology, arts and culture, humans still tend to end up doing dumb or fucked up shit.
Distorted & horrifying or can also be ridiculous faces, fake photos of stars and galaxies, inadequate representations of intricate lines, shapes and colors in my visions. Maybe all this effort of spending time creating impractical objects is a better end.
In a way like making a dysfunctional bag for collecting stardust.
