Quatro Hapimeel’s 4th solo exhibition pays homage to his new found love of Automotives, Scooters and Kustom Kulture.
As a kid, the artist had a brush with the automotive life, he played with mini 4WDs, and was regularly taken along to the car lots of his dad’s business partner, ironically those didn’t give him any deep interest with the car industry.
Pandemic also contributed for the fruition of the show, it became the catalyst that helped him mend his relationship with his father, a reconnection that gave way to revisit moments filled with parking lots and wheels, a push the artist needed to start learning more about cars and scooters.
The artist found inspirations with Low Rider Car Customizers like Ed Roth a Automobile Custom Enthusiast, Ed was also the creator of one of the icons of low brow art, Rat Fink, a green rat who is always drawn riding hot rods, big bikes and of course low riders. He also rediscovered one of his childhood idol, Akira Toriyama, the manga artist who created Dragonball and Dr. Slump, most of his comics shows characters riding scooters or futuristic hover pods, those illustrations were published as a collection named Toriyama Motors.
The pieces of the exhibit shows the artists trademark style, works that was inspired by the people around him and his mindset of living the moment, the theme of the works was fueled by his new passion and his new goal, building his own automotive shop.
Push Start pertains to the idea of igniting the spark to just start, taking the risk and trusting the process, creativity was meant to be like that, you just need to turn those keys, start crossing boundaries, and enjoy the ride.
