The physical aspect of the human body was only a portion of the entirety of our existence. A mere container for the various components that make it work. Hand in hand with each other, the bodily systems coordinate with the neural core to operate through our tactile senses that communicates with the corporeal dimension. Synapses travel through neural connections that transmit to and from the brain. With these encounters, information will then be translated into memories and experiences that are unique to one’s individuality. An idiosyncratic point of view through the position of personal lenses and vantage points.
The corporal field can be perceived with empirical analysis, but what about the metaphysi- cal questions pertaining to the nature of the mind? Or going beyond; one’s soul? The individuality of being, the assortment of layers of memories that lead toward a certain peculiarity, personal inquiries on differences among the others and how one perceives the world as it is subjectively. These were some questions that ambiguously shrouds the essence of our existence.
“Fragile Notions” is a collaborative exhibition with Artemis gallery and Vinyl on Vinyl which features works by Indonesian artists Dedy Sufriadi and Taufik Ermas, Malaysian artist Syahbandi Samat and Filipino artist Gabriel Tiongson. A multitude of different perspectives and viewpoints with their varying foundations, cultural approaches, and backgrounds. The exhibition showcases each artists’ individual inquiry on personal sensibilities and a reflection on the connection of their own subjective view and the objective world opinions established by our society. A mediation between one’s sensitivity to personal existence, the exploration of Individualism and uncovering that the preconceived ideals instilled by our civilization were but fragile notions.
