Certain phenomena in our existence happen accordingly and subsequently, following a certain balance, a natural flow of order. It may be causality that brought about the next occurrence as a result of the previous, or just a natural course of sequences that happen for certain reasons.
For millennia, countless civilizations that existed on top of the surface of the earth sought the path of knowledge, alongside this pursuit was the search for one’s purpose. This may also be the case for associating metaphors with everything that we perceive. To better understand the natural order, humans often parallel things with symbolical value.
Numbers exemplify order in a series by connecting a numerical symbol with a specific value. At present, there are symbolical meanings imposed on each numerical value other than the original intended definition of it. These numerical representations and meaning associations are like mirrors of the relationship between physicality and spirituality.
The number 4 (four) is cognate to completeness, a solid grounding, stability, order, or foundation, the numerical value also represents the power of creation, for heaven and earth were created on the 4th day accordingly and the two great lights were created to rule over the day and night; The sun and moon. Four is the number of the cardinal points; North, South, East, West. The faces of the moon, four seasons and four winds to name a few.
Syriac Aramaic was the believed Semitic language spoken by Jesus and evolved under the influence of the Church. Arb’o (ܐܰܪܒܥܳܐ) is an ancient Syriac Aramaic for the number 4(four). In this exhibition titled “Arb’o (ܐܰܪܒܥܳܐ) “ three artists, Guy Custodio, Demosthenes Campos, and Carl Dumdum utilized the idea of numbers as sequences and explored the symbolism of physicality and spirituality associated to the number 4. The works showcase a curation of elements through each artist’s interpretation incorporating symbols and meanings of the harmony of the cosmos, the number 4; Arb’o
