Burn The Dollhouse

It is believed that all humans are created equal, in some cases it may be true, but people who are on the other side of the scale say otherwise. In order for there to be balance, there must always be opposite factions, black and white, good and bad, yin and yang, etc. These opposites were constructed to impose power within the society while shutting in diversity to the confines of objectivity.
Social constructs were the results of human interactions, formulated based on people since the start of civilization. As human civilization progresses, some of these constructs remain stagnant or obsolete yet still embraced normalcy.
In “Burn The Dollhouse, Summer De Guia explores one of the main discourses of social construct; Gender. The works talk about societal constraints imposed on women over history. A dollhouse serves as a metaphor for limits placed upon women, a superficial facade that masks what is the reality inside. The series of works sort of dance along a sequence of events that lead to the last piece portraying an image of a burning dollhouse. An event of catharsis, of escape, of freedom.
