The existence of man was said to have started five to seven million years ago, and evolution of the human mind dates to two and a half million years ago. Humans during that time exist within harsh environments and treacherous hazards such as predation and the natural chain of the pyramid. Despite these, humanity continued to pull through with their discovery of the use of sharpened stone tools that enabled them to defend their lives and to forage. These make-shift stone armaments were not the only tools that these early civilizations carried, they also manage to develop their minds and sharpen their instincts to survive. The mind, as stated by evolutionary psychologists, is ingrained with these instincts that rule the human behavior at present.
This year challenged the world population with the pandemic. The country like the rest of the world was forced into a lockdown, a lot of sectors have been affected, crippled, if not forced to shut down. Among the highly affected were the “non-essential” clusters such as entertainment and the creative industry. The society is not only affected by the plummet of the economy and the scare brought by the virus, but also the drastic rise of cases of people who suffers from mental health issues such as anxiety and depression on a daily basis.
Some artists even before the pandemic, were living in a hand-to-mouth subsistence. We can clearly see the million years of evolution of the mind with these survival instincts that enabled people to live another day. Survival nowadays is a common term, not only specific to a certain social class, and not only pertains to the physical existence but also mental and psychological state of an individual.
